Laberinto Institute
Laberinto Institute was brilliantly designed by the French-Salvadoran Janine Janowski, a renowned arts icon in the country and the architect Javier Sagarra. After building it she famously said that the view was so beautiful, it distracted her from getting any work done. The architecture embodies the four classical elements of nature –earth, water, fire and air. It features two distinct spaces that offer the perfect balance of contemplation and connection-- the outward beauty of the landscape and the internal recognition and reflection of it.
The house is perched over the beautiful Coatepeque lake, across from the Santa Ana and Cerro Verde volcanoes. The lake, in the center of the volcanic crater, is mythically known as being the unofficial 8th world wonder. Laberinto Institute, a landmark in the history and legacy of galería el laberinto, is a living distillation of Janine Janowski’s artistic and curatorial vision. The house was conceived by Janine and the late Salvadoran architect Javier Sagarra within a kind of artistic and social activism. Built with salvaged materials of personal and historical significance, the leading architectural principle was an expression of cultural recovery and a response to the natural landscape. Architectural drawings reveal the labyrinthian design of the house and hint at Janine’s philosophical framework for the creative life.

Instituto Laberinto
El Instituto Laberinto fue brillantemente diseñado por la francesa-salvadoreña Janine Janowski, renombrado ícono de las artes del país, y por el arquitecto Javier Sagarra. Luego de construirlo, Janine expresó que la vista era tan hermosa que la distraía de hacer cualquier trabajo. La arquitectura representa los cuatro elementos clásicos de la naturaleza: tierra, agua, fuego y aire. Presenta dos espacios distintos que ofrecen el perfecto balance entre contemplación y conexión: la belleza externa del paisaje, así como la reflexión y el reconocimiento interno que surgen de ella.

El Instituto Laberinto, un paradigma en la historia y el legado de galería el laberinto, es la síntesis viva de la visión artística y cultural de Janine. La casa fue concebida por ella y el fallecido arquitecto salvadoreño Javier Sagarra en una especie de activismo artístico y social. Construida con materiales rescatados de gran significado personal e histórico, el principal fundamento arquitectónico era expresar la recuperación cultural y dar una respuesta al paisaje natural. Dibujos arquitectónicos revelan el laberíntico diseño de la casa y dejan entrever el marco filosófico de la vida creativa de Janine.
